Beauty Secrets—From The Set Of Sex and the City 2 To You
Last night, Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte reunited on the big screen at the premiere of one of the most anticipated movies of the year. In Sex and the City 2, the fab four take Abu Dhabi (actually, Morocco, where it's apparently easier and cheaper to shoot a big-budget film), and while their characters' personal squabbles have changed slightly-matured even, with Carrie and Big struggling over domestic bliss, Charlotte learning that motherhood can be a curse as well as a blessing, and a defiantly single Samantha dealing with menopause-some things remain the same. Like, for instance, the ridiculously high-end Patricia Field-styled wardrobes and the flawless beauty routines. Here, a brief look at some of the products that kept the characters' real-life counterparts looking their respective parts.
Do the Wave
With a desert providing the setting for the majority of the flick, hair department head Frank Barbosa often opted for relaxed, natural waves. Why fight the warm weather, right? With René Furterer finishing spray in hand, he coated blown-out tresses to add some guts to the actresses' hair before using a one-and-a-half-inch barrel curling iron for texture. Finger-combing and a light top coat of René Furterer Fioravanti No-Rinse Detangling Spray provided the languid, shiny look. Touch-ups with René Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo kept things set (and grease-free) between takes.
Extreme Close-Up
A lot has changed since the HBO show debuted 12 years ago, but the biggest developments have less to do with plotlines than they do with technology. With HD cameras rolling for the film's sequel, not just any foundation could be trusted to keep pores minimized and blemishes invisible. Kristin Davis' makeup artist, Nicki Ledermann, relied on tubes of Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation in #155 to make sure the actress' complexion appeared line-free and meticulously matte-without any semblance of a caked-on makeup mask.
Hot Tips
Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall battle it out for the title of "flashiest" in the sequel, and at least once Cattrall comes out on top. In one particular scene, when Samantha grasps a Champagne flute, gilded, mirrored reflections are visible on her fingernails. The effect is, of course, courtesy of Minx overlays in Golden Lightning, applied by New York nail stylist Naomi Yasuda. Me-ow.
