The 10 Timeless Beauty Tips You Need

Trends and tides come and go, but these timeless beauty tips last forever. By Rosa Heyman, REDBOOK.

1. Protect yourself from the sun.
"Sun screen is the number one anti-aging method," says makeup artist Lindsey Jones. The easiest way to incorporate sunblock into your daily beauty routine is to use a face lotion with SPF. You should even apply sunblock to your hair! Jones recommends Kerastase Crème UV Defense Active to keep your locks luscious.

2. Tap into your inner Boy Scout.
Always be prepared by carrying a mini beauty tool kit with you at all times. Jones believes that "every woman should always have ibuprofen, tampons, concealer, to-go wipes, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and lipstick on hand."

3. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Drink lots of water throughout the day and make sure to keep your skin hydrated, using body and face lotion. Jones loves Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion for your body, "It's inexpensive and completely unscented, so it won't conflict with your perfume." She also loves Nuxe Body 24 Hour Moisturizing Body Lotion.

4. Stand up straight.
"Bad posture is never attractive," says Jones. "If you stand up straight and relax your shoulders, you'll look a lot more natural and at ease" - not to mention more confident.

5. Care for hair
Always apply conditioner to your hair before jumping into the ocean or a chlorine pool. "Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner is the best hair conditioner ever and it's under $10," says Jones. Even if you aren't hitting the beach, it's important to use a deep conditioner at least once a week to keep your hair shiny and glossy, which will make you look younger.

6. Be eye-ware.
The skin around your eyes is so thin and delicate that it is the first to show signs of aging. In addition to wearing sunglasses and not pulling at your skin when you apply eye makeup, Jones swears by the SK-II Signs Eye Mask. "Cate Blanchette turned me on to them when I was doing her makeup. Keep them in your refrigerator and put them on for 10 minutes while you do your hair. They not only hydrate your eyes but also instantly help de-puff so that you're ready for eye makeup. They're incredible!"

7. The power of topcoat
Make sure to apply a topcoat every day to maintain your manicure as long as possible. Topcoat will also help keep your nails extra shiny and strong.

8. Exfoliate
Want radiant and smooth skin? Start exfoliating. How often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type, "Typically, you can tell you should exfoliate your face when you see a buildup of dead skin or your face isn't feeling as smooth and you're seeing dryness and texture after you apply makeup." Jones loves philosophy's Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash. To keep her lips smooth and soft, Jones scrubs them with a wet toothbrush, which removes the dead skin. Exfoliating your body regularly is important too - "it brings blood to the surface of the skin, which helps remove cellulite," adds Jones.

9. Win the bronze.
Bronzer and blush can be worn year round to contour and even out your face. "Giving your face a bit of color will add dimension and interest," explains Jones. "But don't forget to bronze your chin and upper lip. Otherwise you'll get what makeup artists call monkey mouth." Also, make sure to change the shade of your bronzer depending on the season.

10. Stay fragrant.
To make your perfume last all day, rub an unscented body lotion (like Jones' pick, Cetaphil!) on your neck, inner wrists and behind your ears - these pulse points give off heat, helping to diffuse scent. When you apply your fragrance, the lotion will help capture the perfume on your skin so that it won't evaporate and you'll stay smelling beautiful all day long.
