3 Steps to Frizz-Free Summer Hair

While we enjoy the warm, sunny, summer weather (that is, when it isn't close to 100, like it's been in New York in the last few weeks), most of us don't like what it does to our hair. When it's hot and sticky, our hair seems to have a mind of its own. But in the Beauty Lab we've found some easy ways to eliminate the frizz of summer. Just follow these 3 steps:

1.) Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and a leave-in conditioner. If your hair is extra-dry, the leave-in conditioner is particularly important and especially if you intend to use heat to style it. Apply an effective anti-frizz product. We recommend Living Proof's No Frizz line ($10 to $59, Sephora). Unlike traditional anti-frizz products, Living Proof doesn't contain silicone, so you can be generous with it without winding up with greasy-looking hair.

2.) When straightening your hair, try Remington Style Therapy Frizz Therapy Iron ($50, Target). Not only does this well-produced flat iron do a fabulous job of straightening, it also has silicone in the plates, which lightly coats the strands and acts as a frizz barrier all day. In fact we were so impressed with how well it works that we gave it one of our coveted VIP (Very Innovative Product) awards in February 2010.

3.) Now that you've styled your hair and you're looking sleek and frizz free, incorporate a dry shampoo into your beauty routine to maintain the style an extra day or two without washing. After all, there's nothing fun about blasting the blow dryer and hot iron in 90-degree weather. I personally like the aerosol products, like Tresemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo ($6, drugstores).
