Makeup artists always harp on the importance of having perfect brows -- and leaving it up to an expert to shape those brows. After all, your eyebrows frame your eyes, give definition to your face, you know the drill.
But, I didn't come to fully appreciate the importance of eyebrows until I saw pictures of celebrities with their brows Photoshopped off. Leave it to the playful, entrepreneurial spirit of the blogosphere to transform gorgeous celebrities into alien-like monsters.
Since bold brows are becoming more of a makeup rule than a trend, I decided to flex my own Photoshop skills and give some unsolicited eyebrow makeovers to the A-listers experts say need tweezer rehab the most. Here are my picks for the best celebrity brows right now -- and the ones who need some eyebrow love (you'll see how much better they look with the Photoshopped brows):
Bold brows have been a trend for a while now. And if you've been tempted to grow out your arches, but you're afraid of the bushy caterpillar look, use Camilla Belle's brows as inspiration. They're perfectly groomed, symmetrical, and full without being overwhelming. "I love her brows -- they're really beautiful," says Vigliotti. "You can't take thin brows and pencil them in to look like this -- it would look ridiculously fake. But this is a great example of a thick, natural brow."
Keira Knightley's brows, while definitely full, aren't symmetrical. "And the arch starts really far over towards the sides of her face," explains Vigliotti. "I'd want to soften up the arch underneath -- make it more gradual. Belle's brows are definitely a better shape for her." See how Jessica Alba would look with Belle's thick brows here.
For years, Julianna Margulies was known for very full eyebrows, but they've gotten thinner recently. Now, they're the ideal example of medium to thick brows. "They were my favorite eyebrows at the Golden Globes," says Vigliotti.
"Julia's brows have been disappearing," laments Vigliotti. "She could really benefit from more volume and a little more color." We gave her Margulies' brows, but in a shade that works with her hair and skin tone. See how Megan Fox and Kristen Stewart would look with Margulies' great brows here.
Even though thicker brows are more popular, they're not for everyone. So Vigliotti chose Charlize Theron as her ideal thin brow: "They're subtle -- and work well with her small, feminine features."
"Fergie's brows are unacceptable," says Vigliotti. "There's too much missing underneath so they have no arch -- they're round and too high." While super-thin brows may be Fergie's look, Theron's slightly thicker version is a big improvement. The result is flattering and much more natural.
