Go Bold! the Best Bright Lipstick for You

On the prowl for a striking hue that flatters? We've got you covered with perfect picks for every skin tone. By Marissa Oliva, REBDOOK.

Let your eyes be your guide
The first step to finding the right lipstick is figuring out whether you have warm or cool skin. "Generally, if skin is warm, it's best to stick with shades that also have some warmth," says makeup artist Pati Dubroff. "And if skin is very pale or cool, err on the side of cooler shades." Don't know how to tell which camp you fall into? Look at your eye color, suggests makeup artist Troy Surratt. If eyes are blue or green, your skin is likely cool. If they're hazel or brown, it's probably warm. "It's not steadfast, but in most cases it's a great indicator."

What's your type?
Choosing a product depends upon your desired look. Like to layer throughout the day? Reach for a classic cream formula. "They go on with medium coverage, and the more you swipe them on, the greater the impact," says Surratt. For a low-key feel, a sheer, tinted lip balm is the best way to get a hint of color. Pati Dubroff Luster Lips ($21.99) comes as a set of five pretty, super-moisturizing tinted crayons.

If you have fair to light skin
Pinky-roses look beautiful on you. "They add a pop of color to lips, but are not overpowering," says Dubroff. For everyday, try L'Oréal Paris Colour Caresse by Colour Riche Luminous Lipcolour in Cotton Pink ($9.99). Then amp up the drama at night by patting on a delicate, sheer berry, like Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Sheer Candy in No. 5 Mouthwatering Berry ($32).

If you have medium skin

For day, make skin glow with a peach or coral tone like No.7 Sheer Temptation Lipstick in Coral Peach ($9.99). For night, make a statement-in a good way!-with a bold, blue-based red hue. MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Ruby Woo ($15) is super-flattering on medium skin tones.

If you have tan to olive skin
Rich, warm shades pick up the olive and gold in your skin, so opt for a vibrant peach for day. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Peach Me ($7.99) wakes up medium complexions. Go a bit brighter come nighttime with orange-y reds, brick hues, and warm berry shades. Try Maybelline New York Color Sensational Vivids in Vibrant Mandarin ($7.49), Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Pirate ($34), or CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in Euphoria ($6.50).

If you have bronze to dark skin

"Dark skin can handle darker shades," Dubroff says. "Even if you want a sheer color, darker sheers look better." A swipe of Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Sienna ($26), a rich rose, looks so good against deep skin tones. And an intense berry for night adds sexy dimension. Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in #04 ($5.49) is a great option.
