I met with the folks from Living Proof yesterday to find out what they have in store for fall (the answer: something potentially game-changing I can't tell you about just yet), and in the process, dashing celebrity hairstylist Tim Rogers mentioned something that gave me goose bumps. Suddenly all of life's hair mysteries just made so much damn sense.

Why he told me? It's common for women to get breakage around their ponytail holder when they put it up when it's wet, and here's why: Your hair is sleeker when it's wet, so as it dries and "puffs out" it tightens in the band, allowing it to cut into the delicate strands on top. Um, hello! So logical!

The solution is to strengthen your strands with a good conditioning styling cream, keep it sleek with a serum, or, perhaps the easiest, just avoid putting it up when it's soaking wet.
