How to Create Beyonce's Smokey Eye

If you've seen Beyonce onstage (she's currently on "The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour"), then you know her musical performances are nothing short of magic. From those wicked dance moves (how is it even possible to move like that in those heels!?) to that disco-era blue sequined body suit and windblown ombre hair, her look is nothing short of perfection.

Of course, Beyonce can't take all the credit. The pop singer has her own beauty guru, make-up artist Sir George, the man responsible for all of her flawless make-up on tour.

"Each key look we collaborate on has a cosmic sensibility at the core - be it a dark winged shimmering eye that takes on the overall look of the night sky or an angelic ethereal approach that magnifies Beyonce's own brilliance," Sir George revealed recently on Beyonce's Tumblr account, beyonce.com.

That's the inspiration for B's smokey eye, now how about some straight-up instructions? Here's how to copy her seriously smoldering eyes. (Beyonce's attitude not included.)

1. Start with a clean canvas. Make sure that all previously worn makeup is removed and that skin is moisturized.

2. Apply an eyelid primer. The key to making and makeup look last is to use primer. It helps to set your makeup and makes it last a long time. If you don't have any eye primer, try patting on a bit of foundation instead.

3. Use a multi tonal eye palette. This makes creating a smokey eye look so much easier because it contains all of the perfect shades that you need to layer. To get a look like this one, try the Sonia Kashuk Eye Shadow Quad in Show Stoppers. ($13.69, soniakashuk.com)

4. Line Your Eyes. Using the dampened end of a makeup brush (dabbing the end of it onto the tip of your tongue a couple of times should give it just the right amount of moisture), dip the tip into the darkest shadow in the palette. Then, draw a line across your upper and lower lash lines. Next, pick a dark brown eyeliner and line above the top and bottom of the eyes nearest your lashes. Gently smudge in around the eye with a smudger (these are usually located on the end of pencil eyeliners or you can just use your finger.)

5. Start Applying Your Eyeshadow Shades. First, start with the medium shadow in the palette and, using your makeup brush, fill in on the eyelid. Then, look for the softest color in your palette (this is usually the lighter shade) and rub above the crease of your eye and up to the brow bone to highlight. Blend all of the shades together with a separate makeup brush.

A little trick you can use to make eyes seem larger is to sweep a lighter, golden shade such as Top Shop's Eye Crayon in Rust ($14, topshop.com) into the corner of your eyes. Using an eyelash curler, curl your lashes and the add your favorite mascara on to finish off the look.
