DIY Hair Mask for Beach-Parched Strands

We've totally reached that time in summer where everyone has an eternal glow and looks a little bit more relaxed than usual -- even if they are drowning in work. I credit sunny weekends and beach trips.

But, I also blame these same sunny weekends and beach trips for the fried hair everyone is rocking (myself included). That extra sun, salt and chlorine do a number not only on your skin, but more so on your poor, neglected hair that's easy to throw up, get off your neck and promptly forget when you're soaking up the sun -- safely, of course.

There is an easy answer though! It doesn't take a trip to the salon or lopping off your locks. In fact, my lil' recipe will cost less than five bucks per treatment, is totally edible (just an FYI, if you're curious) and can be whipped up in two minutes flat. Give it a try once per week to see substantial change quickly.
Here's what you'll need, plus why you need it.

* One Super-Ripe Banana: Aside from its health benefits, bananas are also a rich source of potassium and vitamins A, E, and C, which help to strengthen strands and speed up growth. The more ripe, the easier to mash.

* A Shot Of Vodka: Vodka's low pH aids in smoothing the hair's outer layer leaving you with major shine and less frizz.

* Two Tablespoons of Coconut Oil or Full-Fat Coconut Milk: Coconut milk or oil are both rich with fatty acids that helps hydrate your hair. Plus, word on the street is the stuff is also awesome for cutting dandruff.

Once you have all your ingredients, blend everything together until it's smooth (a hand blender, food processor or regular old blender will do the trick). If the mix is too runny, toss in another banana. Then, apply to dry hair, stuff everything under a shower cap and veg for 30 minutes. Shampoo and condition the way you normally would, and you'll be left with seriously healthy strands. Swear.
