Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tatou, and Brad Pitt. What do these celebrities have in common? They've all hocked the iconic Chanel No. 5 fragrance. If you were thrown off by the Brad Pitt addition it's because he was recently announced as the new face of the fragrance, and his first commercial will air October 15th. While the brand officially announced their collaboration with Pitt back in May, everybody kinda forgot about it. But it's real, it's happening, and the first behind-the-scenes photos have been released.

Pitt is making perfume history, because this is the first time Chanel has used a man to sell a woman's fragrance. The powers that be aren't spilling many details, but Andrea d'Avack, president of Chanel Beauty & Fragrance, explained their reasoning behind making Pitt their main man to WWD. "We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman, and the perfume."

And d'Avack also revealed the set-up of the ad. Pitt will speak in the commercial as if he is addressing a woman, but then it will actually turn out to be the bottle of perfume. Um, OK? That sounds kind of awkward and confusing, but this whole thing does hit on the idea of why women buy perfume in the first place. Is it to smell good for themselves? Is it because they want to be more like the woman in the ad? Or is because they want to attract a man? And not just any man, but a hunky Pitt-type man.

Chanel No. 5 seems to make it clear what they think drives a woman to buy perfume. But the notion seems to be taking a step back. Aren't there benefits to smelling good even if you don't happen to score a handsome guy at the end of the day?

It will be interesting to see how the sales do with Pitt. If they are through the roof, we're guessing spokeswomen like Charlize Theron and Blake Lively will soon be replaced by the likes of George Clooney and Johnny Depp.
