The Game-Changing Product You Need for Thick Eyebrows

Yes, it's true, and by now we all know it. Bold brows are in, and as long as Cara Delevingne has anything to say about it, they won't be going anywhere for a very long time. But this is not another article with helpful tips for the meager-browed, those devoid of a triumphant arch a la mode. (For that sort of thing, I'd kindly point you here or here.) No, this one is for the big, the bushy, and the unibrowed among us.

See, there are many products currently on the market that are designed to groom brows. They're mostly called brow gels, but some of them will be fancy and call themselves "tamers" or "mascaras" or something of the like. But do you know what they all have in common? They're crunchy. Sure, they comb your brows up to a pristine and immaculate shape, but then they dry and they get sticky and they feel heavy when they move and you can't touch them for fear of ripping off a patch of your much-coveted, very trendy brow hairs.

But you know what? We're not alone. In fact, we wild browed are in good company! When I had the pleasure of being on set with one of Beyoncé's go-to makeup artists, Sir John, he told me that the Queen herself has a pair of brows that are quite difficult to tame. And I've personally seen more than one makeup artist take quite a bit of time carefully tending to the legendary arches of Ms. Delevingne. Now, there's good news for all of us.

"I hate the crunch," makeup artist Troy Surratt said to me while explaining his great and gorgeous line of innovative cosmetics, most of which are formulated in tiny factories in Japan to guarantee exclusive formulas and major performance. "I have these really curly brow hairs and I couldn't get anything to make them stay," he said.

Ever the beauty genius, Troy began using shoe polish on his eyebrows. "It was the only thing that made them shiny without being too stiff," he said. Eventually, when concocting his own formulas for Surratt Beauty, he decided to make a more...conventional product.

"It's called Expressioniste Brow Pomade," he says. "It was inspired by men's hair products. It's white when the wand comes out of the tube, but it goes on clear once you brush it through."

You can slowly build the product for more problematic areas or patches, or utilize the awesome bristles (actual hair, not like a mascara wand!) to literally comb through your brows for a polished, full, and undetectable look. And when you raise your arches in surprise, you won't feel that awkward tightness that comes with traditional gels. At $25, it's a pretty sizeable investment, but four months after daily use of the product, I still have plenty left. And I've got some pretty big eyebrows.
