Jewel Fixes Teeth for June Carter Cash Role

Jewel's crooked teeth may be her signature, but she's been spotted with a perfect set of pearly whites for her new role as June Carter Cash in Lifetime's upcoming biopic. This week she Tweeted a photo (at left) and wrote, "Here I am as June in my trailer with her blue eyes and perfect teeth #ringoffire." Jewel also dyed her blond hair brown for the part.

We were surprised to see Jewel altered her teeth. After all, her imperfect smile helped land her a role in 1999's Civil War film "Ride With the Devil." "I asked [the director], 'Why me?'" she told Shape in 2010. "And he said, 'You have period teeth.' So I got the job because I was the only actress in Hollywood who hadn't gotten her teeth fixed!" This makes us fairly confident her recent dental transformation is not a permanent one.

Many celebrities from Charlize Theron to Nicole Kidman have made themselves "ugly" for a movie role, but often actors are asked to enhance their appearance before filming. After a little digging, we realized Jewel is not the first star to alter her teeth for an on-screen character either. Robert Pattinson corrected his teeth prior to taking the screen as vampire Edward Cullen in "Twilight." "They wanted me to have the perfect smile," he told Female First. "I never thought anything was wrong with my teeth, but the producers wanted me to wear a brace." Jim Carrey also altered his smile for "Dumb and Dumber," removing a cap to reveal his own real chipped front tooth he felt was perfect for his character.

We understand the need for actors to adjust their appearances for different roles, but we really hope Jewel reverts to her own unique smile when she's done filming "The June Carter Cash Story."
