The lob, or long bob, is nothing new-the shoulder-grazing style quickly became a new classic thanks to its ability to flatter all face shapes, but factor in the soft, touchable waves worn by
Kate Mara,Jessica Alba, andCiara, and the look gets an unexpected edge. "With a smooth crown and textured ends, these shoulder-grazing cuts give off a cool-girl vibe," says Mara's stylist Alex Polillo. Capture that ease by working with day-old strands. Liberally mist hair with salt spray like Sachajuan's Ocean Mist ($28;spacenk.com), then flip your head down and blow-dry with a diffuser to build volume. Run a 1-inch flatiron over small sections, then clamp the iron over the bottom half of each piece, leaving out the tips and twisting the tool up and away to create S-shaped bends, says Polillo. To finish, rub styling cream into the waves to give them a choppy, lived-in look.
