When we saw Diane Kruger's updo at the Cannes Film Festival, we fell in love instantly. We were directly brought back to the Carolina Herrera Spring 2012 fashion show with the pony bun hybrid. And the best thing about it? Although Diane wore it as a formal updo, it pairs great with casual wear, too. Here's how to get the style, so you can be just as trendy as Diane!
Get The Look: Kate Middleton's Braided Updo

Step 1: Apply a shine serum such as Phyto 'Phytolisse' Ultra-Shine Smoothing Serum ($30, Nordstrom.com) to tame fly-aways and create a smooth, shiny texture to work with. The smoother the texture, the easier it will be to style.
Step 2: Gather all of your hair a little below your crown and hold with a thin elastic.
Step 3: Leaving a ½ inch piece of hair loose in the ponytail, gather the rest of the hair and fold into a loose bun. If your hair is longer than shoulder length, you may have to fold more than once to get that controlled look like Diane's.
Step 4: Wrap the loose piece of hair around the elastic to hide.
Step 5: Spritz your hair with a strong hold hairspray, such as Pantene Pro-V Classic Hairspray Extra Strong Hold ($3.99, Drugstore.com) to keep the bun in place.
