We can't get enough of Lupita Nyong'o's epic fashion and beauty choices throughout this red carpet season. Last night, the Oscar nominee delighted us with her look again, while being honored by Sally Morrison & LoveGold at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles. While she broke what many consider to be the cardinal rule of beauty-don't pair a strong lip with a bright statement eye-she pulled it off, and she looked stunning.

"Who says you can't wear bright eyes with bright lips?" says her makeup artist, Nick Barose. Barose chose to go bold with primary colors, a bright cobalt liner and a bold red mouth on Nyong'o. "The key is to just go for it and instead of just simple black or brown liquid liner which can look too traditional with a classic red, I wanted to make the look quirky, fun and very pop art with the Yves Klein Blue liner (Lancôme Artliner 24H Bold Color Precision Eyeliner in Sapphire, $30 at sephora.com) contrasting the bold red mouth (YSL Rouge Pur Couture in #1 Le Rouge, $35 at yslbeautyus.com). To keep red lips looking luscious but without bleeding or feathering, Barose advises prepping your pucker with a non-greasy lip balm; last night he used Kiehl's Facial Fuel No Shine ($9 at kiehls.com). "Keep the rest of the face less colorful but don't forget to dress the cheeks with subtle blush that flatters your skin without looking too bright," says Barose. On Nyong'o he opted for a sheer plum (Lancôme Blush Subtil in Aplum $30 at lancome-usa.com), proving that rules really were made to be broken!
