Marilyn Monroe–Themed Spas and Nail Boutiques Expected to Open in 2012

by Julie Miller,Vanity Fair

As a testament to her everlasting pop-culture relevance and marketability, an Orlando, Florida-based company plans to open nail spas named after Marilyn Monroe, the iconic beauty who, to the best of our knowledge, was not particularly known for her manicures. The Los Angeles Times reports that Marilyn Monroe Spas will open three types of beauty-themed establishments named for the Hollywood star in 2012 and 2013: nail spas, "glamour rooms," and luxury spas. The nail spa will primarily offer manicures and pedicures, while the glamour room will reportedly feature all the services of a nail spa plus hair and makeup styling. The luxury spas are slated for cruise ships, luxury hotels, and other luxury venues in the years to come.

Marilyn Monroe Spas co-founder Al Weiss told the Times what customers should anticipate: "When people walk in they're going to see her red lips, they're going to see things that they'll recognize very quickly from an iconic standpoint and they'll know they've walked into a world of Marilyn." A different Marilyn, we're assuming, than the one whose nervous nail-biting habit has been immortalized in poster form.

While Marilyn Monroe Spas, which is working in cooperation with the company that owns most of the actress's estate, has no exact opening date for its first location, in Orlando, it sounds like you'll be able to absentmindedly decimate your new tips starting in November or December.
