Nail Tips Right Off the Runways

From simple nails at Jen Kao to wax paper stickers at Rodarte and show stopping designs at Rachel Antonoff this year, the nails at New York Fashion Week stepped it up a notch in diversity.

Michele Huynh and a team of CND nail artists at Rodarte created the lattice fingertip toppers with a base of Desert Suede mixed with Frosting Cream, followed by Super Shiney top coat. On wax paper they spread a blend of the first two colors and Chocolate Milk, added a matte top coat, and let it dry overnight. Then they cut strips and applied one to each nail.

At Jen Kao, simplicity was key. Helena Robinson, CND's overseer of fingertips backstage, describes how to get the look.
1) First, apply a base coat of sheer metallic (models wore Gold Shimmer Effects).

2) Add a layer of a creamy nude, like Pink Lily.

3)Finish with a matte top coat for a soft, sharkskin-like finish.

Ocean Inspired Nail Art

At Rachel Antonoff artists at CND spent 65 hours creating 600 nails to have enough sizes for all the models' fingers. They made three designs, including white with clear tips that had names of Antonoff's friends and family handwritten in two colors - blue and red. Inspiration came from the video "Powers of Ten" and aerial views of the gardens at Versailles.

You can gain inspiration for nail art anywhere, just take your time. The nails at Rachel Antonoff show time and precision pay off.
