Nicole by OPI Launches Modern Family Collection, We're Confused

Listen, I love a good Hollywood-inspired nail polish collection. I mean, they usually make some kind of sense, and tend to reflect the star's personality pretty accurately. Example A? Kelly Clarkson's Deborah Lippmann lacquer, Stronger, an epic purple sparkle that the singer debuted at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Example B: You just know that Mariah Carey is finishing her mani with her Liquid Sand topcoat right about now. Point being, this list is just the tip of the Hollywood polish iceberg.

And let's also get another thing straight: I LOVE Modern Family. The four-time Emmy-winning comedy is creative, witty and incredibly clever.

So I guess I'm all like, "Really?!?!" now that the show (technically 20th Century Fox Entertainment) paired up with Nicole by OPI for a 14-color collection that hits stores next month.

According to OPI, the collection was "inspired by ABC's award-winning Modern Family. The line features shades that capture the show's colorful personalities from a classic taupe named after patriarch Jay, to a sparkly pink hue fit for little Lilly." Hmmm. OK. Well, I have a couple of problems with this.

First off, does anyone look at any of the characters on MF and go, "Oh hell yeah, I need to get that mani!" You know? There's not much a glam beauty factor going on -- not including the presence of Sofia Vergara, that is.

And second of all -- fourteen shades?? That's....a lot? I'm pretty sure even the line inspired by Shrek only had six -- and that movie had TONS of color to get inspired by.

Don't get me wrong: there are a couple colors in there that make total sense. She's Lilly Something, a pink sparkly base with flecks of red, would totally be spotted on the sassy little cutie. Am I Making Myself Claire?, a greigy-pink, is perfect for constantly crazed and always busy mom Claire. And then, of course, there's the super-dramatic, reddish berry Basking In Gloria?, which is something Vergara would totally rock -- and may make an appearance on my nails during the holiday season.

But does Gloria's son, Manny, need a sky blue hue to his character? Or Uncle Cam require a metallic emerald green lacquer? Frankly, it's a bit too much if you ask me.
