'Perfect Woman' Image Is a Freakish Mashup Fantasy

Women love Scarlett Johansson’s lips while men are sticking with Angelina Jolie’s. At least that’s the word from a dubious online survey that asked both sexes to pick and choose among the facial features of celebs to discern, in a high-school yearbook–reminiscent effort, who is “most beautiful.”

“Would Mila Kunis’s seductive eyes, Megan Fox’s button nose and Angelina’s plump pout form the perfect visage?” British beauty retailer Escentual.com posited to its blog readers earlier this year. “Let us know whose facial features you think are the best. We’ll take your results and construct the perfect female face, according to you!”

The just-released results are less than illuminating, with the male-idealized creation a creepy, dead-eyed combo of Kate Middleton, Jennifer Aniston, Mila Kunis, Miranda Kerr, Angelina Jolie, and Megan Fox — with blond hair (courtesy of Shakira), of course. Women, meanwhile, curated a poorly stitched brunette with features from Cara Delevingne, Keira Knightley, Freida Pinto, Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson and Megan Fox.

So what are we to learn from this exercise in virtual plastic surgery? For one, how celebrities and models, mostly white, are largely believed to be the most perfect. But wait — we already knew that. So perhaps the bottom line is a little less…important.

“While these images bring up some alarming ideas about our narrow beauty standards, if anything," notes Jezebel, "they're simply a testament to the unsettling hilarity and chaos that ensues when you try to create the ideal woman by mod-podging the faces of top celebrities.”
