The Victoria’s Secret Angel Leo Never Got His Hands On

Victoria's Secret

models have a reputation: They’re the cream of the crop, have the best bodies in the business, haunt nightclubs, get frequently featured in gossip columns, and nine times out of 10 have dated Leonardo DiCaprio.

But then there’s Lindsay Ellingson who finally hit the mainstream Thursday when it was announced that she got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Sean Clayton. The lucky man, a medical sales rep, proposed to the 5-foot-11 stunner at his parents’ house in Ohio over Thanksgiving. Ellingson, a Victoria’s Secret Angel -- the most elite job in the industry, the one that launched the careers of Gisele Bundchen, Miranda Kerr, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima and more — is a bit of a mystery. And chances are you have no idea who she is, on top of the fact we’ve never spotted her with model-obsessed DiCaprio.

“Lindsay’s probably the most normal and down-to-earth model I’ve ever worked with,” Fred Howard, a public relations rep who works with fellow Angel Doutzen Kroes and megamodel Linda Evangelista, to name a few, tells Yahoo Shine, “She’s a self-proclaimed science nerd, and just calm and professional. Everyone loves working with her.“

Her life seems rather touched-by-an-angel too. Scouted by modeling agents while studying at UC San Diego, Ellingson flew to Paris in 2005 on the advice of her agents without a single modeling credit to her name, and was immediately cast by John Galliano to open his runway show — a coup for a model at any level, let alone a newbie. Next up? Her first photo shoot with industry legend Mario Testino.

Since then, her résumé continues to boast only the best— Chanel, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Armani — making Ellingson the most unknown supermodel in the world. Which is exactly the way she wants it. Her low-key, under-the-radar cool demeanor— she likes puppies, doing yoga; she hates nightclubs, waking up at 5 a.m. for work — is totally refreshing. And she has bred a fiercely loyal coterie of fans, ranging from average Joes to CEOs. The normally press-shy chief marketing officer for Victoria’s Secret, Ed Razek, gave Yahoo Shine a glowing response when asked about Ellingson and her engagement. “I couldn’t be happier if she was my own daughter. She is such a special young woman. She’s thoughtful, smart, surprisingly shy, and obviously very beautiful.”

Congratulations, Lindsay!
