Should You Try Blue Lipstick?

While the versatility of navy blue extends to all manner of striped boating shirts, velvet loafers, and smudged eye liner, lips have been spared its collegiate cool, probably since on them it can call to mind a corpse, and not in a good way. But Poppy King, founder of Lipstick Queen (and a hero to beauty editors everywhere) has created a shade that is more preppy than preternatural. It's called Hello Sailor. It's a Barneys exclusive. And it is, in fact, a true navy blue. It feels like a balm and is, mercifully, rather sheer. The blue tint mutes the lips, and makes them look more womanly and grown-up somehow, in the vein of Clinique Black Honey -we'd call it a distant relative. It turns the lips a pinkish-purple hue. And in the same way that blue mascara makes the whites of your eyes pop, the blue tint helps teeth look whiter, too.
