A Peek at the Menu at the New Yankees Stadium
Hot dogs. Pretzels. Cracker Jacks. Beer. This is stadium food. Has been for generations. But times changes and so do people's taste. Today, the New York Yankees announced their "general concessions lineup" and it's a peek inside the future of ball-field dining. Sure, they kept the classics (nuts and ice cream too). But they've added foods in a dizzying array of categories (see below).
1) Healthy/Kosher
Include " farmers market" fresh fruits and veggies. They don't say exactly which members of the produce family will be featured.
2) Name Brand Debuts
Lots of opportunity to eat higher-end comfort foods, as exemplified by the partners: Boar's Head made-to-order deli sandwiches, Brother Jimmy's BBQ, Johnny Rockets, Lobel's of New York , Moe's Southwest Grill, and Otis Spunkmeyer. To drink: Dunkin' Donuts Coffee or Tommy Bahama's mixed drinks.
3) Child-Friendly
Not especially exciting to hear that they'll serve "candy, caramel and chocolate-dipped apples" as well as popcorn, but their heart's in the right place with the "Kids Cart," which offers school-lunch favorites and smaller-portion items, such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, milk, small hot dogs and Kozy Shack Pudding.
4) "New Cuisine"
A safe, apolitical way to say "ethnic food." Includes a "Latin Corner" serving hot-pressed Cuban sandwiches, nachos, and burritos; "Noodle Bowls stands" with Asian-inspired items; and "Soy Kitchen" sushi and salads.
5) Full-Service Dining
The Hard Rock Cafe and NYY Steak will provide upscale alternatives both inside the Stadium and at street level.
What's your call: Good game plan or foul ball?

Are locals represented? Yes: You can buy zeppoli and antipasto from Mike's Arthur Avenue Italian Deli, Nathan's hot dogs, and Lobel's steaks (and steak sandwiches from a cart).
Did they factor in a green agenda? Yes. To quote the press release: "Beverage cups in the Stadium are made of biodegradable material instead of petroleum-based plastics, and the Yankees are committed to purchasing paper products that are 100% recyclable. By composting and recycling cardboard, glass, metal, plastics and paper, approximately 40% of the Stadium's trash should be diverted away from landfills, resulting in fewer trash pickups."
