A refreshing frozen drink in every color of the rainbow

There's something kind of silly about summer. Everyone wears brighter colors and flip-flops, we whoop and holler down water slides. And we drink frozen blended drinks -- blue Hawaiians, Mai Tais, Margaritas. Slurpees for grown-ups. Oh yeah, time to channel Isaac Washington, "your bartender" on the Love Boat.

You're thinking, "Excellent idea, I'll pick up one of those mixes next time I'm at the liquor store." But that's not how Isaac would play it. Have you ever tried making one of these from scratch? It's ridiculously easy because the blender does all the work -- and you can really taste the difference.

Some of these drinks call for simple sugar, which couldn't be easier to make. I'm serious, it's two ingredients and takes less than five minutes.

1. Combine one cup of water with one cup of sugar in a small pot.

2. Stir over medium-low heat until the sugar is fully dissolved. Done!

And now, a round-up of classic frozen cocktails. Just gathering these all together has me craving some frozen-fruity-rummy thing right now.

Classic Frozen Margarita: Super easy -- just tequila, frozen limeade, cointreau (an orange-flavored liqueur), and lime juice. Once you learn the classic, you can move on to a few variations.

Strawberry Frozen Margarita: Have you noticed it's strawberry season RIGHT NOW?

Mango Frozen Margarita: Like you need an excuse to have fresh mango anything.

Paula Deen's Pina Colada: No butter in this one, but it does have coconut cream and coconut milk along with pineapple and rum. Lordy, I need to sit down after reading that ingredients list.

Pink Mai Tai: This drink originates from the "Mai Tai" bar at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki. You'll need dark and light rum, orange curaçao (or other orange liqueur), orange juice, lime juice, orgeat (an almond and rose or orange water syrup), and grenadine.

Frozen Daiquiri: Okay, the Pink Mai Tai is a little bit fancy. Here's something simpler: rum, lime juice, sugar.

Frozen Blue Hawaiian: No blue food coloring necessary! This drink gets its hue from blue curaçao. It also has pineapple juice, rum, cream of coconut, pineapples, and cherries.

Love Potion #9: Oooh, cast a spell on someone with strawberries, creme de cacao, vanilla ice cream, and vodka.
