Appetizing Arachnids! Make Creepy Crawly Spider Cookies

The perfect Halloween treat!
The perfect Halloween treat!

Whenever I make a cake or a batch of cookies, my son is always there to help. We love rolling dough to create cake pops and rolling chocolate to create decadent truffles. This time, I decided we should have fun with chocolate chip cookies. Using pretzels as legs, googly eyes for a funny insect expression, we made creepy crawly chocolate chip cookie spiders as a practice dessert for his Halloween themed birthday party.

Ingredients
1 Roll (16.5 oz) Pillsbury Refrigerated Chocolate Chip Cookies
6 ounces chocolate ready-to-spread frosting
20 candy eyes
40 pretzel sticks cut in half

Directions
1. Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, knead cookie dough and flour with hands until well mixed.

2. On floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Place dough on ungreased cookie sheet.

3. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 20 minutes.

4. In a large bowl, cut cookie in pieces and crumble to small pieces. Add chocolate frosting and mix with hands. Roll 10 cookie crumb/frosting balls and immediately insert 8 pretzel sticks on each side (spider legs). Press candy eyes into each spider. Set chocolate chip cookie spider on a serving platter. Repeat until mixture is gone. Let stand until set, about 20 minutes.
