Braid-to-Order! Create a Fancy Pie Crust in 3 Simple Steps

Take your pie up a notch!
Take your pie up a notch!

Back when I was a kid, my cousins and I stalked the pie table on holidays. We had an enormous family so there were plenty of slices to go around. When I became old enough to contribute to the pie pile, I wanted to make mine stand out. As every teenage girl loves to braid, I thought braiding a pie crust was the coolest thing in the world. I still do it to this day and every time my pie is always the first to go. In just a few simple steps, you can create a pie crust that will wow the crowd.

Ingredients

Double crust pie dough
Water

Directions

1. Place one pie dough in a pie plate and trim to fit.

2. With a pizza cutter or a knife, cut 12-inch-long, 1/4-inch-thick strips of dough from the remaining pie dough. Using three strips at a time, braid the strips together.

3. Using a pastry brush or your finger, brush one side of the braids with water. Place the braids on the edge of the pie dough in the pie crust and press gently to secure. Trim braids to fit.
