Wedding cakes are usually cut into 1 x 2 inch slices. Before cutting the cake, remove the top tier. This is usually saved for the wedding couple's first anniversary. Then start cutting into the 2nd tier, next 3rd tier and so forth.

Party Cakes are typically cut into 1 1/2 x 2 inch slices.

Tips

  1. Have a long thin knife and cake server ready.

  2. Run the knife under hot water to help the knife glide easily through the cake as you slice.

  3. Dry the knife after your first cut to prevent crumbling.

  4. Wash and dry the knife between every slice to ensure a smooth cut every time.

  5. To make even slices, place a light mark on the cake.

  6. Use a cake server or spatula to lift each pice of cake onto a plate or into favor cake boxes
