Yum!
Yum!

This munchie mix is my go-to holiday party snack. It's sweet and salty and altogether "YUM!" It's also a great recipe if you're looking for a homemade gift for a big group. Package this mix in cellophane and tie it with a pretty bow, and you have the whole office or PTA covered in one fell swoop!

Ingredients

12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
12 oz. white chocolate chips
12 cups popped salted & buttered popcorn
3 cups pretzel sticks
1 cup salted cocktail peanuts

Directions

1. Spread out two long pieces of parchment or wax paper and combine the popcorn, pretzels and peanuts. Mix well and then split into two equal piles. In separate bowls, set aside 1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1/3 cup white chocolate chips.

2. Put the remaining semi-sweet chocolate chips in a large microwave safe bowl. Set microwave on 50% power for 3 minutes. Stir with a rubber spatula and scrape down sides every 30 seconds for the first 2 minutes, then check every 15 seconds after that, until the chocolates are about 2/3 melted. Then stir until the remaining chocolate melts. Make a well in the center of the chocolate and add one pile of munchie mix. Fold in gently until coated then spread back onto the wax paper. Sprinkle the 1/3 cup white chocolate chips on top and gently press them in to make them stick. Allow to cool while you prepare the other half.

3. Repeat the process using the white chocolate chips: Put the remaining white chocolate chips in a large microwave safe bowl. Set microwave on 50% power for 3 minutes. Stir with a rubber spatula and scrape down sides every 30 seconds for the first 2 minutes, then check every 15 seconds after that, until the chocolates are about 2/3 melted. Then stir until the remaining white chocolate melts. Make a well in the center of the white chocolate and add the second pile of munchie mix. Fold in gently until coated then spread back onto the wax paper. Sprinkle the 1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips on top and gently press them in to make them stick. Allow to cool.

4. Once the piles have cooled and hardened, break them up into smaller pieces. You can either combine them together as I did, or serve in separate containers. Either way makes a pretty presentation! Store munchie mix in an airtight container.
