Halloween Candy: Which to Bite, Which to FIGHT!

Halloween season is a scary time of year -- and we're not just talking about the ghosts and goblins. There's a ton of fatty, sugary candy everywhere right about now. But before you end up getting tricked by a treat, check out our best and worst finds...

BEST

Tootsie Roll Midgees

These chewy little rolls (about 1-inch long) have just 23 calories and a half gram of fat each. And they kick a chocolate craving to the curb STAT.

Jolly Rancher Hard Candies, Original

These candies come in tons of fun flavors, and they take a while to eat, which means you eat fewer of 'em. You can have 3 pieces for just 70 calories, and they're fat-free!

Dum Dum Pops

Itty-bitty and adorable... It's sugary goodness on a stick! A mere 20 calories and no fat per pop. And they come in some amazingly unique flavors like cream soda and watermelon!

Wonka Lik-m-aid Fun Dip 0.5-oz. Pouches

Bring out your inner child with these pouches. Each one includes flavored sugary powder and a candy dipping stick -- a total of 50 fat-free calories. Just lick the stick, dip it in the powder, and lick again!

3 Musketeers Mini Bars

Out of all the mini chocolate bars, these are your best bet -- 24 calories and about half a gram of fat each. Love that fluffy middle. (The bars, not YOURS)!

Tips & Tricks for a Guilt-Free Halloween...

* Stock up on sugar-free, dessert-like gum like Trident Layers and Extra Dessert Delights. P.S. The Apple Pie flavor of Extra Dessert Delights is insanely amazing!

* Research shows you're likely to consume more fat and calories with bite-sized and fun-size candies than with the regular ones. So be careful!

* Sugar-free chocolate can be just as high in calories and fat as regular chocolate. And organic candy isn't necessarily any lower in calories and fat either -- always check the nutrition labels for stats!

* Mix small candies with 94% fat-free popcorn or other crunchy stuff for snack mixes -- then immediately divide it into portion-controlled baggies. It's a great way to make your candy go far.

* Bring your extra candy to work ASAP after Halloween. Set it out in a bowl in a common area, and before you know it, the candy will disappear. Crisis averted!
