Party Food Shockers and Swaps!

Tasty little snacks make a party more fun. And while you want the treats you serve to be delicious, you probably DON'T want to bog your guests down with too much fatty food. Here is some slightly scary info about popular party foods. Plus, Hungry Girl's easy recipes to help you skip the extra calories without losing the flavor!


FIGHT IT! Pigs in a Blanket, Average (300 calories and 20g fat!)

Tiny franks wrapped in yummy dough are pretty hard to resist, which is why we were so appalled to find that regular pigs in a blanket pack SO much fat and so many calories. Our slimmed-down version tastes -- no joke -- JUST as good. And it has less than half the calories and a quarter of the fat. BOOYAH! (Multiply the recipe to fit the number of people you plan to feed.)


FIGHT IT! Jalapeno Poppers, Average (305 calories and 21g fat!)

Whoa. Five little jalapeno poppers have HOW many calories? UGH. Where did those peppers go wrong? The deep-frying... the cheeses... It's OK -- you can save this dish. Make our baked version, and oh the oily calories you'll save...


FIGHT IT! Guacamole, Average (150 calories and 13g fat!)

"But Hungry Girl," you might say, "150 calories isn't too bad!" Factor in that you'll be eating your guac with a bunch of chips, and it's bad news. Sure, avocado has the GOOD kind of fat, but that doesn't mean you should eat a TON of it. The HG guac has avocado, but lightens it up with Greek yogurt and mashed peas. Don't knock it till ya try it. (P.S. Use baked tortilla chips and cut veggies for dippers!)

Our swapper is baked (not fried), has fat-free cheese inside, and is stuffed with chicken. YAY!


FIGHT IT! Caramelized Onion Dip, Average (240 calories and 22g fat!)

Onion dip rules! Caramelized onion dip? Even better.
