Power Bar Or Candy Bar? Health Foods That Aren’t

Normally when anyone here's the word Power Bar they think of a healthy nutritional bar that will give you the energy to do whatever you need. Since when did Power bar become a company that has turned from energy bar into candy bar? I was recently looking at some of the nutritional information of some Power Bar's and came across what I thought was pretty shocking news. The first ingredient on the list of a Power Bar was corn syrup…wait, I'm sorry but am I missing something? I was under the impression that corn syrup was one of the worst things in the American diet so the fact that it is in what has been perceived to be on of the healthiest lines in American history is using it as its first ingredient seems a little off to me. To continue my investigation I looked at some more seemingly "healthy" products on the market and found some crazy stuff going on in the aisles.

Many people go for the quaker oats boxes because they have that healthy vibe to them in the sense that anything that has oats in it has to be healthy. What Quaker leads you to believe is that everything they offer is healthy, but watch out for their granola cereal that can have more calories than any other thing you could find in the aisle. The nutrition isn't even including the milk that you pour into your bowl either.

Continuing with the theme of "healthy" foods, lets check out what the company Naked has to offer us with is lines of fruit drinks and juices made from fruits of all kinds. The line of drinks ranges from protein, to well-being, and antioxidant blends of which all sound pretty healthy right? While investigating this brand I found that while they look really healthy and have products with no sugar added in them, the amount of juice you get in 15.2 ounce bottles is more than enough for two people. The serving on the bottle says 2, but who is really only going to drink half a bottle of juice for the day and put it away. Don't forget that even calories from fruit add up, as well as the incredible amount of sugar in these bottles as well.

So just remember next time you're at the store that just because something looks healthy or even sounds healthy, always make sure to check the back to get the real information. Looking for the nutritional information and the serving size is really important as with the Naked line of drinks, and always check the ingredients list to make sure your source of power isn't corn syrup like it is in the Power Bar.
