The dead are rising, so it's time to put the finishing touches on your zombie apocalypse survival kit. While a flashlight, batteries, and water are important, we have some suggestions you may have left off your list.

Tombstone Cookies
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons cocoa (or cacao) nibs
6 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar, plus extra for sprinkling cookies
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Melted semisweet or bittersweet chocolate

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a blender, whirl cocoa nibs until each is about the size of grain of rice.

In a large bowl of an electric mixer, beat butter and 1/2 cup sugar until creamy; beat in egg and vanilla.

In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa nibs; gradually add to butter mixture, blending thoroughly, to form a soft dough. Divide dough into thirds, cover each portion tightly with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until form (at least 1 hour), or up to 3 days.

On a floured board, roll out dough, a portion at a time, to a thickness of 1/8 in. (keep dough refrigerated when not in use). With a sharp knife, cut out free-form tombstone shapes (about 1 1/2 by 3 in.; cut bottom edges at an angle to make them easier to poke into the pots de creme), and place slightly apart on ungreased baking sheets. Sprinkle generously with sugar.

Bake cookies until edges are lightly browned, about 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to racks and let cool completely before handling.

Using a pastry bag with a very fine tip, pipe the letters "RIP" in chocolate on at least 8 of the cookies. Stick these cookies into the
Dark Chocolate Graveyard Pots de Creme and serve the rest of cookies alongside.

S'moresThe Ultimate S'moresThe Ultimate S'mores
You might need a fire for survival, so why not have a s'more for dessert? Not to mention marshmallows have an unusually long shelf life.
Survival Tip: Go with the quick-burn method of toasting your marshmallows so that you can snuff the flames out quickly; no need to attract attention with that low-and-slow approach.

The Ultimate S'more
Ingredients:
Vegetable oil
Homemade Graham Crackers
4 bars (3.5 oz each) dark chocolate with almonds, each broken into 3 pieces
Homemade Marshmallows

Fold 12 sheets of foil, each 12 by 20 in., in half crosswise; then oil tops. Center 1 graham cracker on each oiled doubled sheet, then top with a chocolate piece, marshmallow, and another cracker. Gently fold foil over s'mores and crimp to seal.

Heat packets on a cooking grate over glowing coals in a campfire or on a grill over medium heat, turning often just until chocolate softens, 2 to 3 minutes. Or, using tongs, grasp packets on sides and heat over a low fire.

Tuna Tortas with Pico de GalloTuna Tortas with Pico de GalloCanned Tuna
If you're afraid the fire will elicit an unexpected attack, try this no-cook recipe starring the ubiquitous non-perishable canned tuna. Survival Tip: Make sure your disaster preparedness kit has a can opener, but try to find a really old one so that you get weapon-ready jagged edges on the lid of the can.

Tuna Tortas with Pico de Gallo
Ingredients:
1 can (6 oz.) solid white tuna packed in water
4 ounces Roma tomatoes, rinsed, seeded, cured, and chopped
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
3 tablespoons lime juice
1/3 cup minced red onion
2 fresh serrano chilies or other small hot chilies, rinsed, stemmed, seeded, and minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 sandwich rolls (3 oz. each), split in half horizontally

Drain tuna well; flake into a bowl with a fork. Stir in tomatoes, cilantro, lime juice, onion, chilies, and salt.

Mound tuna equally on sandwich roll bottoms and set tops in place.
