5 Necessities for a Successful Workday

No matter how you define success, it's something we strive for each and every day. Whether your hours are packed with budget meetings or a classroom of energetic first graders, getting from point A to point B isn't always easy. Everything from traffic jams to emergency conference calls can derail our forward progress. You can set yourself up for success by planning ahead and staying focused. Here the five necessities for a successful work day:

A Good Night's Sleep

When we have a lot to do, one of the most common ways to fit it all in is to work later and deprive ourselves of sleep. That may actually lead to lesser productivity however. In fact, recent studies have verified that getting a good night's sleep can improve productivity. When your body and mind are rested and refreshed, you think more clearly, stay focused more easily and have the energy to get through your busy day.

A Healthy Breakfast

Breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day, yet due to our time constraints, we often skip it altogether. With Quaker Real Medleys oatmeal, you can get the nutrients you need to keep you full and focused until lunch time. All varieties are packed with fiber and protein and come in a portable microwavable bowl ready to eat in less than five minutes. Tasty flavors include Apple Walnut, Cherry Pistachio, Peach Almond and Summer Berry.

A Plan

Remember that old cliché, "Plan your work and work your plan?" There's a reason it's been around for all these years - because it's great advice. Get yourself a day planner or use one of the many organizational apps available to help keep you focused and on schedule.

Comfortable Clothes

Although we always want to look our best, it's hard to stay focused when your waistband is constricting or your shoes are pinching. Take the time to choose a wardrobe that is functional as well as fashionable and you'll see a definite improvement in productivity.

A Clean Desk

We're not always able to control the chaos around us, but we can control our own domain. It's nearly impossible to perform at top efficiency when we have to dig through three inches of paper to find our meeting notes from an hour earlier. Take a few minutes each evening before you leave the office to straighten your desk and work to keep it neat throughout the day. You'll feel less stressed and be more productive.
