Turn Seasonal Skincare Habits into a Daily Routine

Turn Seasonal Skincare Habits into a Daily Routine

Fashion and beauty habits change with every season. But when it comes to your skin, we have five simple practices that you should adopt as part of your daily routine all year round.

Wear sun protection. Whether you're in the sun or under the clouds, wear sunscreen on your face every single day. Even when the sun is hiding behind overcast skies, UVA and UVB rays can still cause damage to your skin. You can use a sunscreen as your first layer under a moisturizer, or use a moisturizer that includes SPF. If your arms, shoulders and legs will be exposed to the sun, apply sunscreen to them as well! And when you're planning to be outdoors for long periods of time, use a sunblock to add a physical barrier between your skin and the sun-and reapply it every few hours or as directed.

Don't forget to protect your lips. Your kisser is a sensitive part of your body. Cold air dries your lips. The sun can scorch them. And wind? Envision lips as dry and cracked as the dirt that hasn't seen rain in years. Lip balms lock in moisture and create a barrier between you and the weather. Cover your lips with a balm to keep them soft and kissable! If you want your lips protected from the sun, use a balm that includes SPF.

Wear sunglasses. Even if the sun isn't shining, get in the habit of wearing sunglasses. It's a double win: you'll be protecting your eyes and the skin around your eyes from the sun's damaging rays. Tip: Pick eyewear that includes protection from UVA and UVB rays.

Don't forget your head! A sunburn on your scalp hurts…and then itches. Like crazy. You can easily protect your hair and the skin on your head, neck and ears by wearing a hat. Another option is to use hair styling products that include SPF. We say use both.

Hydrate. Seriously. Make water your drink of choice. It helps keep your body in tip-top shape by riding it of toxins that can otherwise clog up the pores in your skin. Added bonus? Water can help your puffy eyes and help your skin look fresh and supple. Infuse water with cucumber or lemon if you need a little extra zing.
