Beauty Guru Post: What Beauty Products Are You Using This Summer? (Here are Mine!)

Summer here in the land of the Palm Beaches mean a lot of sun, 200% humidity, and above 90 degree temperatures! As much as I love the summer and all the fun it brings, trying to look like a human being becomes a challenge, especially when it comes to my beauty look. It's very easy for your makeup to literally melt off your face. Before the temps started to rise I spent a lot of time playing with eyeshadows , wearing at least two colors at a time before stepping out for the day. Now it's a different story! I'm embracing the mantra of less is more and I've settled into a routine that not only holds up in the heat but seems to be on trend too!

Keeping the Shine Away

Usually I would use my trusty Covergirl Clean Powder on my T-zone to help keep the shiny affect off of my face. But it's too hot for layering on powder so instead I started using the Shine Stopper from one of my favorite makeup experts Paula Begoun. It's a cream that you apply after your moisturizer and before your foundation that creates a matte finish and keeps it that way for up to 6 hours. I noticed a considerable difference in my skin's shine factor during the day, which translates into less powder touch ups for me!

Subtle Eyes:

These days I'm lucky to even put eyeshadow on let alone a full blown out look. But sweat and smokey eyes do not get along so opt to keep the eye make up simple. For a concealer I use Covergirl's Smoother's Concealer . If I'm really lazy, I'll just put a light coat of foundation on over it. If I want something just a little extra, I have a few options:

  • Nyx Eyeshadow Base in White Pearl : It literally adds a nice shimmer and enhances the color of any eyeshadow color you put over it.

  • Jillian Dempsey for Avon Professional Eye Smokifier : This product is really cool because can you use it as eyeliner or an eyeshadow. I really like the color Very Bronze because I get the same, subtle shimmery effect with one product instead of two. The product itself is like a really light powder that's easy to apply and easier to smudge to get the look you want.

As for mascara, I can't give up my black mascara! I tried the SuperShock and SuperFull mascaras from Avon in brown/black and though I loved how full my lashes looked, I just wasn't crazy about the color, finding that my lashes weren't standing out like they should. So sometimes I use either one of those and add a layer of my Ulta Amped Lashes in black.

Cream Blush

When I say this Be Blushed Cheek Color from Avon is something I wear about 99% of the time, I'm not even kidding! Forget the bronzer and all that extra powdery stuff that makes my face feel heavier than it needs to. This blush-in-a-cream-stick gives me the right type of summery glow I need and stays put all day. (The color I use is Pink Melon, by the way!)

Having Fun with Lip Color

I've been on a bright lip color kick lately and I'm finding that it's a great way to still give my makeup look pizzazz without the extra work (or product!). Once again, I'm a Covergirl, with two of their LipPerfection lip colors in my collection (Entwined and Tempt, which is the color I have on in the pictured). Not only are their colors so rich, it really does keep my lips really moisturized throughout the day! And if I'm not eating an entire meal, it stays put! I definitely see another one of those in my immediate future!
