5 daddy-daughter films you've got to see

Father's Day

is almost two weeks away. Do you know what you're getting Dad? (Or do you know what the kids are getting dad?)

In my house, we typically invite family over, celebrate the day with burgers and dogs on the grill, and top off the night with gifts -- ties, golf clubs, maybe a "World's Best Dad" mug, blah blah blah. This year, I'm thinking of doing something different, something where my dad and I can spend some quality time together, something that will catch him off-guard! Something like ... a movie marathon! (Maybe the day before, though, since, really, who doesn't love a barbecue?)

Grab your dad, a cozy spot on the couch, and these 5 great father-daughter movies. Popcorn not included.

Father of the Bride. Really, is there anything more appropriate? A touching Steve Martin, a hilarious Martin Short, and one of the best daddy-daughter stories ever told. If you keep a watchful eye, you may even see dad shed a tear. Er, get something in his eye.

My Father the Hero. Old school. A young (1994 young), pre-Grey's Anatomy Katherine Heigl and Gerard Depardieu will make you laugh as you watch Nicole (Heigl) pretend that her father Andre (Depardieu) is her lover in order to impress a boy. And he goes along with it! That's a good dad.

My Girl. Tissues -- lots of 'em -- definitely required for this one. You will appreciate your dad more than ever as you watch Dan Aykroyd, who is a widower, try to relate to his 11-year-old tom boy daughter (Anna Chlumsky). It will make any awkward moments you've had with your father feel like a walk in the park.

Little Miss Sunshine. An amazing movie all around -- to watch with friends, family, or by yourself -- but Greg Kinnear as the dad of the bunch and Alan Arkin as grandpa will keep you and your dad in stitches the entire time.

Paper Moon. Not only is it about a father and daughter, it stars a father and daughter. Ryan and Tatum O'Neal will have you glued to your seat as you watch their characters reunite, then take on the Midwest with their bizarre scam, all while picking up a slew of colorful characters along the way.

What other daddy-daughter films can you think of?
