The 5 Greatest Dads on TV Right Now

We're celebrating Father's Day by taking a look at our favorite dads on television right now. From their hilariously embarrassing antics to their loyal support, here's our list of dads we sometimes wish were our own (just for one day!) and why we love them.

5. Bobby Cobb from ABC's Cougar Town

Brian Van Holt may not play the most responsible dad on television-his character, Bobby Cobb, is a recently divorced dad living on a boat docked in a parking lot-but he certainly knows how to have fun, and spends most of his on-screen time passing down this fun-loving sense of adventure to his son Travis. Between taking Travis to a strip club to cheer him up after a breakup and embarrassing him in front of friends by driving his run-down golf cart, Bobby Cobb is a non-stop good time TV father figure who does his best to co-parent Travis with co-star Courtney Cox.

4. Rufus Humphrey from The CW's Gossip Girl

For four years now, Matthew Settle has been playing Rufus Humphrey, former rockstar and dad to son Dan and daughter Jenny. While he sometimes arrives late to the scene of the Upper East Side drama the show is centered around, he does whip up a mean batch of waffles any kid would envy. With his culinary skills undying efforts to steer his teens in the right direction, it's no wonder Rufus Humphrey was nominated for Teen Choice Awards Choice TV Parental Unit in 2009.

3. Phil Dunphy from ABC's Modern Family

This TV dad burst onto the scene two years ago and has already contributed hugely to the comedic arena. On August 29, 2010, Modern Family won Outstanding Comedy Series. Played by Ty Burrell, Phil Dunphy is a father who means well, but usually ends up embarrassing his kids Luke, Haley, and Alex more than anything else. We can barely get through an episode without getting a stomach ache from laughing out loud at Phil's antics and incredible quotes, including, "I'm cool dad, that's my thang. I'm hip, I surf the web, I text. LOL: laugh out loud, OMG: oh my god, WTF: why the face?" We can only imagine how entertaining a day in his house would be if the show were real.

2. Burt Hummell from FOX's Glee

While Glee is all about the singing and dancing kids of McKinley High School, these teen performers would be nowhere without the love and support of their parents-in Kurt's case, without the loyal protection of his dad Burt. Mike O'Malley plays Burt Hummell, an all-American guy who works on cars, listens to John Mellencamp, and navigates society's treatment of his openly homosexual son. Burt is the perfect model of a faithful friend and father. He fights for his son's chance to try out for the "Defying Gravity" solo, kicks his soon-to-be stepson, Finn, out of the house when Finn calls Kurt a degrading name, and cheers for Kurt when he kicks the winning goal in a football game to the soundtrack of Beyonce's "Single Ladies."

1. Eric Taylor from NBC's Friday Night Lights

Coach Eric Taylor, played by Kyle Chandler since 2006, is not only father to his daughters Julie and Gracie, but a strong model to his entire Dillon, Texas high school football team. We're not the only fans of this sporty dad who always puts his family ahead of his career-in 2007 he won the Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement In Drama and in 2010, Kyle was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
