3 Ways I Need to Take Care of Myself as a Mom

Hayden turns 8 months old tomorrow and I can't believe how fast it's going the third time around. Having 3 kids, especially 2 older kids with lots of activities, is keeping me more busy than I ever thought possible. Many days go by like a blur between taking care of baby, working, homework and cooking dinner, that some days I find myself standing for all my meals, and I can barely remember drinking a cup of water all day. I'd like to take better care of myself, because a healthy and happy momma makes for a healthy and happy family. Here are 3 simple things I can do to take better care of me, and I'm going to start tomorrow!

Caffeine Fix

It's really no surprise that caffeine is many a mom's best friend. And while I don't usually have more than 1-1.5 cups of coffee a day, I do find myself going to coffee first, before breakfast and water, first thing in the morning. Many times it's 11 am before I realize all I've had is coffee, and I haven't eaten a thing or taken one sip of water. Starting tomorrow, breakfast and a cup of H2O, then coffee! Please hold me to it!

This is a picture of my lunch yesterday; a few sesame crackers spread with brie cheese, and a Perrier, gobbled down at my desk while baby was napping and I was writing. Horribly unbalanced to say the least. I want to focus not only on taking some time to make myself a decent lunch, but eating it outside or at least at the dining room table; not at my desk while typing away!

Take Your Vitamins!

It literally takes less than a minute to take my vitamins each day, but sadly I can't remember the last time I've actually taken the time to take them! Between nursing, middle of the night wakings, and an active life and schedule, I need all the extra help I can get so I really need to do a better job of taking my vitamins! Maybe I'll get one of those boxes and set it at my bed each night so I don't forget!

So how about you? Do you find yourself taking the time to do the little things that will help you better take care of yourself? And if so, how do you remember to, or find the time to? Or are you like me, and need to do a better job of setting aside time so that you can do the things you need to do for your own health and well being?
