7 "Picture Perfect" Tips for Capturing Baby's First Months

So much is going on during those first few months of having a new little one in your life. With Soren, we were learning to adjust to parenthood, had lots of visitors and tried to sleep whenever we could. Not to mention recovering from the delivery! I wanted to make sure we took time to capture the special moments of having a new baby, especially since they change to quickly! Here are a few of my tips for easily capturing those special moments.

1. QUICK TO CLICK - Having a smartphone is incredible. It makes taking photos of Soren so easy. We continually have our phones near us, so in the event of him doing something cute or sleeping in an adorable position, we're sure to capture it.

2. STRIKE A POSE - While we have TONS of cell phone photos of Soren, I also like to take time to take more professional looking photos with my DSLR. For the first month, every time he would turn a week older, I would take him in his nursery during the morning sunlight and take photos of him. The natural lighting made for beautiful photos and he is usually the most aware during the morning time. I'm so thankful for these beautiful images.

3. OVER SHARE - Since family can't get enough photos of Soren either, we decided to set up a private photo sharing account and email photos updates to our family when we uploaded new photos. This is a great way to share his growth and keep the grandparents happy. :)

4. MOVING PICTURES - While we've been obsessed with taking photos, we've also done our best to remember to record videos. Jon has captured a lot on his phone and so have I, in a few weeks, I'll compile all of the clips into one film to show some of the special and funny moments over the past few months.

5. WRITE IT DOWN - There are a lot of emotions, thoughts and experiences that are important to remember during this time. We got a sweet baby book before Soren was born and have worked on filling it out over time. I love that we have his little handprints and footprints in a book that also will share the story of his first year.

6. PROUDLY DISPLAY - Since we have so many beautiful photos, we didn't want to simply leave them on our computers. Instead, we picked out our favorites, framed them and hung them in our entryway. We love seeing them everyday and guests that come to visit also love them. It's an amazing way to really make your home feel more "homey" too. ;)

7. BE PRESENT - While it's fun to take lots of photos, record videos and write out your thoughts. One thing Jon and I wanted to make sure we did was just be present in the moment. We don't always have to capture everything. It's okay to put the cameras down and just enjoy his sweet smiles. These moments are so special to us, just being together as a family.
