Easy Does It: Can the Right Pair of Jeans Make You Look 5 Pounds Lighter? Yes!

Those elusive five pounds in your weight loss program are driving you nuts. Is there an easier way to shave those last few pounds from your body? Yes, and you don't even have to try the latest fad like the Starbucks Diet. Instead, the solution may be as simple as wearing the right pair of jeans that create the illusion of weight loss. Easy Does It host Erkea Vetrini went shopping with stylist Clare Mukerjee and learned the secrets to finding jeans to that give your body an instant lift and can make you look five pounds lighter.

Before you even step foot in a store, Mukherjee says that women need to do some homework. First, get to know your body: "Know what your want to hide and what you want to highlight," she tells Vetrini. And be sure to measure your waist.

Next up, know your jean options. Skinny jeans can be really flattering if they have enough stretch to them. Flare jeans, says Mukerjee, are tough to pull off in flat shoes. However, if you have a bigger bust or rear end, you'll want to go for the flare because they add bounce to a fuller figure.

What about pockets or fancy buttons and stitches on the back of your jeans? "It's all about creating an optical illusion," says Mukerjee. "If you are shy about the size of your bum, avoid any embellishments in the bottom area."

Pay attention to the wash of a jean, which can add pounds to your thighs. If you want to look like you've lost five pounds -- longer, taller, leaner and thinner -- avoid lighter washes. Wear dark, even tones.

"Avoid fake distressing like the plague," cautions Mukerjee. "It draws attention to most areas on the leg that most women want to hide."

And if you hate shopping and just need a go-to pair of jeans without the hassle of trying on fifty styles, look straight away the mid- to high-rise denim. "It sucks in and flattens out the tummy." Mukerjee loves the practicality of the mid- to high-rise styles because you easily can bend over and kneel down without flashing any skin. "Go for dark denim straight leg with a mid rise."
