Super Bowl Snacks for the Kids

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest unofficial holidays of the year. It's also one of the biggest eating days of the year. While you may be making great dishes for the adults, what about the kids? Most kids won't enjoy the same foods, but there are a number of foods they will love that are also healthy. Whether it's a health-conscious taco dip or caramel apple wedges, kids are going to love these Super Bowl snacks.

Taco Dip

Taco dip doesn't have to be loaded with calories. A kid-friendly version could be made with taco meat that is made with ground sirloin or 98% fat-free turkey breast. You could then add a layer of low-fat shredded cheese, lots of lettuce and chopped tomatoes, plain Greek yogurt, fat-free refried beans and salsa.

Baked Chicken Nuggets

An alternative to chicken wings for kids are baked chicken nuggets. All you need to do is cut chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces, dip in egg whites, and roll in bread crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for around 15-20 minutes, or no longer pink. Serve with fat-free ranch dressing and barbecue sauce.

Chili Mac

Before you turn your chili into 5 alarm chili for the adults, set aside a portion for the kiddos. The chili can be mixed with whole grain pasta and topped with shredded cheese and fat-free sour cream for a yummy chili mac.

Miniature Pizzas

What would Super Bowl Sunday be without pizza? Of course, your children don't have to eat high-calorie pizza. You can make miniature pizzas on whole wheat English muffins. Keep the full-fat cheese so that it melts, but use healthy toppings, such as vegetables.

Football Sammies

An easy-to-make snack for Super Bowl Sunday is sandwiches. Make your sandwiches on rye bread with whatever healthy ingredients you choose and then use a hollow cookie cutter to cut the sandwiches into footballs. Place some fat-free mayo into a squirt bottle and make the design of laces on the top of the sandwiches before serving.

Caramel Apple Wedges

Last, but not least, you need a sweet treat. Instead of fussing with dipping caramel apples, cut large apples in half and scoop out the core. Fill the apple halves with warmed fat-free caramel and allow to cool in the fridge. Once the caramel is hardened, cut into wedges and serve.

You don't have to serve your children high-fat foods during Super Bowl Sunday. There are a number of quick and easy dishes that are also healthy.
