Fall Leaves Stained Glass Cookies

¾ cup butter

¾ cup white sugar plus more for decorating

2 eggs

1 tsp rum extract

½ tsp vanilla extract

3 cups flour

1 tsp baking powder

Werthers's Original hard candies, crushed

Cream together butter and sugar. Add extracts and eggs. Slowly add dry ingredients. Chill dough for several hours.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare cookie sheets by lining with parchment paper. Roll out dough until it is about 1/8-1/4 inch thick. Cut out circles using a round cookie cutter or a drinking glass. Cut leaf shapes out of center of each circle either free-hand or using a small leaf cookie cutter. Fill center with crushed candy. Sprinkle sugar over cookies. Bake for 7-9 minutes. Candy centers will stay soft for a little while so let cookies cool completely before removing from parchment.
