Coachella Takes You Around The World in 3 Days

Coachella might be an All-American festival at heart (and in location), but the lineup this year is quite international. With the simple purchase of a festival pass, you can take a visit around the world, without even having to leave sunny Indio, California.

Let's start with our friends from the Great White North. We have long-running indie bands like Metric (Toronto) and Tegan & Sara (Calgary) hailing from Canada as well as relative newcomers, Montreal-based Grimes and Vancouver kids Japandroids repping the land of poutine and compulsive friendliness.

It's truly shocking, how many excellent musicians England has produced over the years. Must be something in the water. This year at Coachella, England is representing with headliners and native Mancunians The Stone Roses, London alterna-rockers Blur, post-punk band New Order, former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, dream pop group The xx, singer-songwriters Bat for Lashes and Jessie Ware, indie band The Wombats, synthpop groups Hot Chip and La Roux, and rapper Theophilius London. This doesn't even include bands like Franz Ferdinand (Scotland) and Two Door Cinema Club (Northern Ireland) who hail from UK nations! Rule Britannia indeed.

When you think "Iceland," chances are you think of musician and possible elven queen Björk. She's synonymous with music from that part of the world but sadly hasn't headlined at Coachella since 2007. Her countrymen and women will make a strong showing this year, however, with legendary ambient-rockers Sigur Rós and indie pop/rockers Of Monsters and Men bringing the Icelandic flair.

Aussies, Aussies, Aussies! We'd like to see alternative, post-punk rockers Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds team up with dubstep duo Knife Party--if only because the idea of the two genres mashed up is hilarious. Although the two bands are countrymen, so maybe they'd find a way to work it out?

Lastly, we have these solo European musical ambassadors. Despite the fact that they perform in English, the electronic rockers and Day Three headliners Phoenix are all Frenchmen and the band formed in Versailles. DJ Benny Benassi was actually born Marco Benassi and is an Italian musician through and through, while his fellow DJ Eric Prydz is Swedish. Can we cue up "All By Myself" in these groups' native languages?
