How to Get Kimbra’s Hair

You may recognize Kimbra from Gotye's smash hit "Somebody That I Used to Know," but the New Zealand beauty's solo material is equally catchy and creative so it's only a matter of days before she blows up. As much as we enjoy her songs (seriously, download "Settle Down" and "Warrior" right now) we're perhaps even more obsessed with her slightly imperfect long bob. We caught up with celebrity stylist Kylee Heath who told us how to get the look.

The cut
Ask your stylist for a collarbone-length bob and tell them you're looking for a square shape with bangs that fall just above the top of your eyebrows. You want the bangs to have that boxy square shape too. Heath suggests getting layers cut to give your hair body and movement.

Hair prep
Heath recommends starting the process in the shower with volumizing shampoo that won't weight hair down. You can also apply a volumizing mousse to the roots of damp hair. "I would then spray a product like Fekkai Beach Waves Spray, lightly, from roots to ends," says Heath. "This will give the hair shape and body." Comb the products through your hair before drying.

Styling

Carefully blow dry your bangs with a round brush, and then rough dry the rest of your hair using your hands. Heath says to "position the dryer in all directions to maximize the volume and get the hair about 80-90% dry." Then using a medium size round brush, blow dry the ends of your hair until they are completely dry, giving them a slight bend using the brush. Next rub a small amount of hair serum in between your palms and coat your hair to prevent frizz and make your hair extra shiny. "If you are looking for a more voluminous look like she often wears, flip your hair over and tease the bottom layer with a wide tooth comb," says Heath. Lock in your style with a light mist of hair spray and you're ready to go!
