You know what they say--sky's out, thighs out! Air out those gorgeous gams of yours with this season's hottest leg-baring trends. Supermodel Chrissy Teigen stopped by to discuss high slits, leather shorts, and more with fellow supermodel and Thread host, Jessica Stam. Here's how to test drive our favorite leggy looks.
Leather shorts – These aren't just for biker chicks––Teigen loves the unexpected bright blue version sent down Rag & Bone's Spring 2013 runway. Experimenting with sporty leather shorts in cream, white, or metallic softens the look and makes it wearable for every woman. In a loose silhouette, they can flatter your legs by making them appear thin in comparison. Finish the look off with a cool leather jacket, pointy pumps, and statement jewels to elevate the funky and athletic shorts.
Denim - Denim was interpreted in many creative ways on the spring runways, from shorts at Dsquared and mini skirts at Balmain, to dresses at Chanel. Take the runway to the streets in a low-slung jean mini skirt with a chambray top and cool belt for a denim-on-denim. Or for ladies who are a bit self-conscious of their waistlines, choose a high-waist skirt and tuck in your shirt. Instant tummy-concealer, and instant long legs! We promise it's anything but "Canadian Tuxedo" and a casual, cool way to show off your legs.
Peek-a-boo hemlines - Championed by designers like Alexander Wang and Akris, the sheer hemline can be rocked in real life with an edgy statement dress, chunky leather heels, and a cuff. It's a great way to show a bit of skin in a more modest, unexpected way.
Shorts suits - Leg-baring trends that are suitable (sorry) for some workplaces--really! We saw chic variations on the shorts suit all over the runways. Pair with leather sandals during the day for something more 9-to-5 appropriate, or opt for heels for a more night-on-the-town look. This is great for ladies in creative fields who need to feel buttoned up at work, can't bear the heat in a full-length suit, and have some leg room (ha!) in their dressing guidelines.
High slits - Teigen herself is a fan of the high slit, a trend brought to the red carpet at this year's Grammys awards. For an outfit that will get you feeling confident and sexy, try pairing a maxi dress with an up-to-there slit with a patterned blouse, wedges, a statement cuff, and oversized clutch. Or if maxis aren't your thing, try a striped shirt with a shorter, to-the-knee skirt. For evening, go dressy in a sleek and sensual gown with the high slit. It's a great way to wear the trend without showing off too much!
