Winter Fashion Blunders

We may be dressing to survive the arctic temperatures outside, but that doesn't mean we can't look cute. With every season comes new style guidelines, and winter has its very own set of fashion blunders. Thread host and supermodel Jessica Stam is here with the worst of the worst--these are the trends to avoid!

Cut-offs and thigh-high boots - Despite the flurry of celebrities choosing to wear this trend, this is a definite no. This pairing comes off looking a bit more "Pretty Woman" than pretty. If you want to try for shorts this winter, don't reach for your Daisy Dukes. Opt instead for a dark color layered over tights and wear with ankle boots or oxfords.

Leggings as pants - Don't get us wrong, leggings are fine for winter--as long as your top covers your behind. Just remember: leggings do not equal pants. Say no to cropped sweaters that hit at your waist and try to treat your leggings like hosiery. If there's no structure or zipper to them, they're more like tights than pants. Leave something to the imagination!

Furry boots with bare legs- If it's warm enough to go bare-legged, there is no way it's also cold enough to warrant fur boots. If you want to show off those naked gams, try a dress with heeled boots and a longer coat. If you want to wear your fuzzy boots, tuck them in to jeans and add a sweater and coat. Furry boots are enough of a statement, so try to keep the rest of the outfit classic.

Animal hats on adults - Cutesy, animal-faced hats are adorable--on babies. If you're old enough to vote, you have no earthly reason to don a fuzzy chapeaux with cat (or bear, or wolf, or rabbit) ears. If you want to make a statement with your headgear, a great option is a stylish hunting hat in a lush fabric. But just like with furry boots, remember that a statement hat requires an otherwise toned-down look.

Puffer jackets with a dressy outfit - Talk about mixed messages! First impressions mean a lot, and your outerwear if a big element for winter dressing. Your coat should reflect the outfit you have on underneath it--so, if you're rocking a dress and heels, opt for a fitted wool coat with chic buttons.
