10 Questions with Heidi Montag

Heidi Montag may spend a lot on her plastic surgery habit (thank you People magazine for showing us the details) but she also spent one million bucks to make "Superficial," her debut album, which dropped this week. We talked to Mrs. Spencer Pratt about being broke, her music idols (Britney) and her
Grammy picks.

#1 With this album, you describe yourself as a "galaxy star." What exactly is that?

It's a future pop star for 2010. I'm not trying to be Madonna or Lady Gaga or anyone else. I'm a whole different type of pop star, a whole different type of performer. I'm in a different galaxy!

#2 How did you come up with the title? Is it a reference to what people think of you and Spencer?
Of course. A lot of people call me superficial. And it's saying, "I know what you think about me." To me, it's more of a joke.

#3 You've described this album as the most challenging thing you've ever done. What made it so challenging?
I did it independently. Usually an artist just records a song and they leave, but I had to find the songs, find the producers, edit the songs, go to the mixing and the mastering. I really had to do every step.

#4 And you've said you poured all the money you had into making it. How much did it cost?
I spent over 1 million dollars and that was actually a price break. It's a Britney-quality album, a Madonna-quality album that would have cost a label double. These songwriters gave me a break because I was this little girl saying "Please! I can't afford it!" To be honest, "The Hills" money wasn't a lot of money at all. I was scraping to get by. It's not like we own houses and all of that. I have no more money.

#5 Really? You're broke? Has your lifestyle had to change?
Let's just say I don't go shopping anymore. I've been making my own clothes. I went to a year of fashion school at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco to lean to sew and cut and make patterns. My favorite dress so far is a very 1950s old Hollywood-style with a high halter neck. It was inspired by Grace Kelly.

#6 Any plans to launch another clothing line?
No, but I have a hair product line coming out soon- a Heidi Montag hairbrush and Heidi Montag dry shampoo. I used it in the jungle and it really saved my life.

#7 Back to Superficial for a second, I hear Michael Jackson and the Beatles were your inspiration. How so?
Yes! I wanted to go back to the way they were making music. Michael Jackson took almost a decade to come out with an album. Music isn't getting the TLC it should be. The sound quality is not what it should be. I had an all-star music team. Bernie Grubman who mastered all of my songs actually shelved Lady Gaga's album to finish mine. It's hard to even get this guy on the phone. Ironically, he was Spencer's nextdoor neighbor growing up.

#8 Speaking of Lady Gaga, are you a fan of her music?
I definitely respect what she does. She's done a great job for herself.

#9 Britney's is your "ultimate" idol. Do you think Superficial would impress her?
I think she'll love it. I think she might want some of the songs because she works very closely with Cathy Dennis who wrote four of them. Cathy said, and this is a quote from her mouth, that "Turn your head" is the new "Toxic", but even bigger.

#10 Now that you're on the music scene, any predictions for the Grammys?
I love Taylor Swift. I hope Miley gets an award. I love her music and I love her personally. I'm not quiet sure who'll win, but I know next year I will.
