7 dramatic summer hair changes

For some stars, their hair is their trademark and messing with it can be a dangerous proposition. On the other hand, a dramatic new look signals to the world that there's more to them than what we're used to. This summer lots of stars seem to be opting for dramatic hair revamps. They're sampling new colors, returning to old ones, and chopping off inches. We applaud the risk-taking but still, we wonder, are the changes for the best? Will winter be one long growing-out process? Have a look at the seven stars below and don't hold back about what you think of each.

Vanessa Hudgens

For her new film "Gimme Shelter" Vanessa went short and even cutoff some of her hair herself. The new look makes her feel like a "soccer mom," she says. Well, one with a butterfly tattoo on the back of her neck….

Evan Rachel Wood

Honestly, I hardly recognized her with her new punk-rock cut. She showed it off at the "True Blood" premiere with an androgynous Dolce & Gabanna vest and trousers. I miss her softer locks but one thing the lack of hair does is put the focus on her very pretty eyes. Not a bad thing.

Emma Stone

After months of living as a blonde to play Gwen Stacy in the upcoming "Spider-Man" film, Emma finally returned to the red shade we know and love. She's actually a natural blonde, but red seems to perfectly suit her green eyes and fair skin. If you ever doubted that color-treated hair could look incredibly healthy and shiny, Emma's "Crazy, Stupid, Love" premiere shots settle the debate.

Katy Perry

We're not sure what color Ms. Perry was going for but she recently gave up her signature "Wonder Woman" black in favor of something between orange and copper. The truth is, Katy looks fantastic in anything (even cat ears) and it's fun to see her try something new.

Lady Gaga

Gaga is in a constant state of flux in terms of her style and her sound ("The Edge of Glory" is a rock ballad, no?). So it's not that surprising that she would make a change for summer. She's experimented with a mint green but I kind of love her half-black half-white Cruella De Vil homage.

Dianna Agron

I totally understand the feeling that you just want to do something drastic to your look right now, but this one seems like a "don't." Dianna's cascading golden lock really suited her delicate features and this blunt bob doesn't look right on her.

Kim Kardashian

It's a subtle change. When Kim tweeted that she'd gone "lighter for summer" and felt "younger" because if it, I was expecting actual golden streaks. Still, her brunette hue is a departure from her usual ink-black. Will she keep it for the wedding? That's the question.
