Fashions that flatter your hair color

You'll notice that most stars have a color palette that they stick to. We see Angelina Jolie hit the carpet in a jewel tone or black and white— shades that contrast with her rich brown locks. Golden blonde Carrie Underwood, on the other hand, can pull off warm neutrals like no one else. To help us figure out what we should be wearing, Shine editor-in-chief Jennifer Romolini talks us through the shades that work best for six Thread viewers, a mix of brunettes, blondes and redheads, using spring's hottest trends.

If you look at the clothes in my closet vs. the clothes in Jen's closet, I'm guessing color is the biggest difference. Jen can wear colors that I, well, I don't want to say "can't" wear, but that I don't think flatter me as much: golden hues and neutrals. Here's a quick rundown on the most flattering options.

For Golden Blondes

Bright colors like oranges and reds or golden hues and neutrals are fantastic. Our model Lindsey paired an asymmetrical floral-patterned top with a belted floral mini-skirt, both with bold red tones.

For Ash Blondes

Ashy blondes should try cooler hues like silver, powder blue or even, as Amy demonstrated, vibrant shades. She looked great in an example of spring's color-blocking trend: a solid cobalt blue mini with a solid hot pink top.

Redheads

Jewel tones like deep purple, blue and green are fabulous. Molly showed us how gorgeous a deep purple tank looked tucked into a pair of '70s-inspired flared jeans.

Strawberry Blondes

Pastels look great with this subtler shade of red. Kiera's hair looked amazing against a pale periwinkle dress that had a fan-pleated skirt and a very on-trend lingerie-inspired corset top.

Dark Brunettes

The key is contrast. Stay away from muted tones. It may sound counterintuitive but one spring trend that dark brunettes can have fun with is the little white dress. Just keep it a bright white, like the mod, lace version Molly tried on for us.

Light Brunettes

Dusty pinks, mochas and khakis go so well with this hair color. Jocelyn looked amazing in a stylish khaki trench dress paired with some red patent-leather peep-toes for a pop of color.
