Grandfather in China Finds Fame as (Female) Fashion Model

If you thought your grandpa was the coolest because he gives you candy or knows how to use a computer, we have some bad news for you: he might not be cooler than Liu Xianping, the 72-year-old grandfather from China who has reached overnight fame by posing in women's clothing for his granddaughter's clothing boutique. Liu told China Newsweek that he began trying on feminine outfits as a joke for his granddaughter, known only as Ms. Lv, after coming over to help her unpack new merchandise. It was then that the senior citizen began offering styling advice, and the two shared a laugh dressing him up. One thing lead to another, and now women all over the world are taking styling advice from Liu (and reportedly seething with jealousy over his enviably lithe gams). He's even getting compared to Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld! We’re not so sure about that--Liu smiles too much to be like the grumpy Kaiser--but we do know that some of the clothes he's modelling, like a bright orange cape and a structured maroon purse, are seriously cute. Quick, what's the Yuan to US Dollars exchange rate?

Liu, ever upbeat, recently released a statement in

which he professed his excitement in being able to help his family. "Why unacceptable [sic] for someone like me to wear women's clothes? Modelling [sic] for the store is helping my granddaughter and I have nothing to lose,” said Liu. “We were very happy on the day of the shooting. I'm very old and all I care about is to be happy." And he has more than enough reasons to be happy. Not only has Liu gained notoriety for his stylish looks, but his granddaughter's online shop, Yuekou, has seen a major increase in sales numbers. Thanks, grandpa!

Now that he’s mastered the fashion game, Liu is already venturing into new territory. Proving that even grandfathers like to get in on the latest hot dance trends, you can find him on Yuekou's homepage on Tmall (a large online retailer popular in China) in pants, vest, and a dapper bowtie doing the “Gangnam Style” dance. As a stylist, a model, and now a dancer it's official: this man is a triple threat. If we find out that he can sing, we're going to personally see to it that he gets a recording deal. But really, we're just hoping he shows up for New York Fashion Week. We'd love to see him take a few turns down the runway!
