How to plan a royal wedding

You don't have to be a Windsor to have a royal wedding. David Tutera, wedding planner to the stars and host of WE TV's "My Fair Wedding," tells us how we can all have our version of a royal day without liquidating the crown jewels to pay for it. Watch David's tips for how to affordably carry out the theme of opulence and sophistication into every detail.

The royal wedding-which is fast approaching-- has us all thinking about how we would construct our own version of the theme. David Tutera has produced events for Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, the Rolling Stones and the prince of Wales. In other words, he has lots of experience with fancy. Many of his clients are not on a strict budget but just as many of them are. When we met at his gorgeous studio in New York City, he insisted that you don't need a ton of money to get the royal effect.

What you do need, first and foremost, is to let the theme of opulence and sophistication inform all of your decisions. You need a dramatic location. Kate and William have Westminster. If you can find a location in your budget that's also grand and historical, that will immediately set the tone. If you're restricted to halls that don't have such intrinsic elegance, you simply have to create it with décor. Lots and lots of white flowers, gold and silver, candles, and crystals amp up the royal vibe.

David has a line of DIY wedding products at Jo-Ann, the fabulous craft and fabric emporium, that would inexpensively elevate a wedding to royal status. The line called Down the Aisle in Style includes items like crystal placecard holders and adhesive rhinestones to wrap around the bridal bouquet. It's these subtle touches that carry out the theme. At his studio he showed us a royal table setting that had gold dishes, candelabras, white flowers, and sparkle everywhere. Speaking of sparkle, David also showed us a gorgeous embellished strapless gown that certainly looked suitable for a royal bride. It was one of the many amazing pieces in his line, David Tutera by Faviana, which offers a range of celebrity-inspired styles at great prices.
