25 years of The Oprah Winfrey Show

That Oprah…she's going places: 25 years ago today, The Oprah Winfrey Show is broadcast nationally for the 1 st time. This year marks the final season of the uber-successful daytime talk show. Oprah has built herself an empire and will continue to reach people on her newly created TV channel, OWN-Oprah Winfrey Network.

Check out this great clip of Oprah appearing on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson for the 1st time:

Love her or hate her, Oprah Winfrey has had a major impact, from her conversation-starting book club to her insane giveaways to her life-changing Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. The past 25 years have given us some interesting (Tom Cruise, anyone?) and sometimes controversial (remember James Frey?) shows and topics from one of the most powerful women in the world. She'll continue to reach people with OWN, but we will never forget the original Oprah Winfrey Show.
